Brand new to EVE, any feedback on what is wrong with this loadout would be appreciated.

I do not have the skills required for hardeners or resistance plating, which is why I just fitted plates. Also, I definitely prefer close range combat to sniping.

Sargeant Hammer might just get shoved out an airlock if they keep it up.

well most new players want the best as fast as they can get so yes to the tristan, but the armor tank?? im not sure a new player would figure out the cap so easily. most new players tend to lose a ship or 2 quite quickly  (i said most). so they look into it and realise they need more hitpoints. so they usually tend to go for shield hitpoints and a shield booster. as this ship has the same number of mids as it does lows it makes shield tanking viable. not right but it took me 4 months to grasp ship bonuses. (that was a long long time ago)

now i dont know about the rest of you guys but capacitor was one of the things i didnt pay any attention to. you either died or warped as the booster never managed to run you out of cap before you HAD to go.

now i know i was a missile runner to start but i still preferred to hit from as far away as i could because as soon as i got close to them i died rather quickly.

all in all the setup is an ok one you have posted but i think a 200mm plate and something else in the lows might be nice. i used to fit an expanded cargohold to my merlin because i carried everything with me. (still ages and ages ago).

dont get me wrong but i dont feel that youve gone with a nice all rounder mission runners setup for a 1 day player.

This is a great setup for a 1-day newb.  The differences I would make are to add more range.  Blasters work for a while, until you run into a mission you actually need to learn to tank.

The first and easiest kind of tanking for a newb to learn is range tanking.

Range tanking is accomplished by fitting rails. 2x150mm if you can, 125mm if your skills don't permit the 150s.

Then you load Iron or Tungsten ammo and pepper your targets from 15km+ where most of what you fight just can't shoot back.

Blasters are going to get a lot of boats killed.

Re: Sargeant Hammer - I'm 2 months old and couldn't fit 200mm plate on this thing. Remember, this is for 1day newbs and they don't have a lot of fitting skills.

See my "One Man Show" Tristan fit to see an example of what I'm talking about Hansie.

cool about the 200 mm thing, i used to fit 100mm to my merlin after 2 days, i was training too many other things so it took about 7 days before i had 200mm on there. i know its a shield tanker is my ol' merling but i found the shield never lasted long enough. so i added more armor too!

A lot of people will dual tank as newbs, it's true.

Personally I run the Tristan with a single 50mm and one passive resistance membrane based on mission profile. The Tristan armor tanks like a pro.

Thanks for the fast feedback guys.

I can fit 125mm rails at the moment, I'll give that a shot. I could get T2 small hybrids but I'm focusing on the Learning skills for now.

Also, I have 0.8 powergrid and ~20 cpu to play with at the moment, I did look at better armour plate but couldn't make it work.

hmm, well if power is your issue have you looked into power diagnostics?

not that you can use them yet ... just a suggestion

Yeah I did look at those, but can't use them yet.

I fitted 2 rails instead of blasters and put an overdrive injector in place of one of the armour plates, and am pretty happy with the results. Orbit at ~12km at 700m/s means I never get hit, and if I go in close to take down the tougher targets with rockets/antimatter I still have enough speed and cap to stay alive easily.

Thank you for posting an early setup.  We don't get that enough around here.

I no longer consider myself a noob and I still range tank when I feel nostalgic and go back to lvl 1s and 2s in my Comet/Tristan/etc.

Congrats on finding rails, they are your friend.  I also remember fitting 280mm howitzers effectively early on.  Loved those things back then, but rails are just as nice.

    'njoy eve and welcome.

yea seriously like hammer said you hit the nail on the head for what you want in a mission setup, so i am guessing you broused bc first. dont get me wrong that is a good thing, i think everyone should have to check this site out. deffinately would have helpped me during my 3 months of dual tanking. =P
