As I scour the modern etchings
on the cowardice, like, floors
I seek the solace in only knowing
there’s hope but not much more
I cant but help the silent cravings
of a ravens stalking tour
I yearn to hear its beating
as it quotes the nevermore
To take such interest in the beast
yet misunderstand the sigh
how much hope can these cowards have
when they condemn both you and I
I cant but help the silent cravings
of a ravens screeching cry
for once the words have been released
the question is always why?
Salutations from Sunny Greece...^^
Newbie player here, this is my first fitting. I think it can help young Caldari players like me run the SoE, L1 and L2 missions without breaking the bank - or our pods for that matter...
The ship I chose to depict is the Corax, a dessie viewed as the natural progression step-stone from the Condor to the Caracal for all missile loving new players. Its a very nice ship (that looks very similar to a VIIC U-Boat as an added bonus), sporting enough firepower and range to be a match for any rat frigate, but I learned (the hard way) that its too fragile under fire to sustain its DPS long enough to kill anything significant.
After managing to solo Dagan in this ship (the first utterly frustrating encounter in this game for me, took me 3 tries and 500 missiles T_T) I started doing L1 and L2 missions with it. It didnt take long for me (which is a surprising fact, as I am too drunk/stupid all the time to pay attention) to realize that the Corax is a ship excelling in range tanking. So the plan was, stay far away, keep those missiles flying, rinse and repeat.
And then I encountered this.
and I died. and I died. and I died. and I died. and I
wait a minute, Im being drunk/stupid again!
Thus slowly, a strategy unfolded so that I could run safely those pesky L2 missions without covering my eyes in terror every 2 minutes or so...
1. use an ancillary shield with a faction hardener
There are some rooms in missions that warp you too close to those pesky pirates for comfort. So, you naturally have to turn away, hit the MWD pedal to the metal and RUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!11 until you are far enough from harm. The first 30 seconds or so are the most crucial here, since its the time when you are getting hit while your angular speed is low and your signature super-sized from the MWD use. After some testing I found out that a small shield hardener will not suffice (a meta4 MSE on the other hand will take months to train for), and a small shield booster like the CL5 will not be able to keep up.
I discovered that using a faction specific hardener would help greatly in that difficult situation. And pairing that with a pulsing ASB that excels against enemy DPS spikes is the best way to stay afloat until you open the range to something you are comfortable with.
2. Use a salvager
I know, many people want to race those missions to gain standings asap. I find though that putting a salvager in greatly helps a new player like me to better outfit my ship and then make some money off the side. For example, the three missile rigs chosen in this fitting setup cost me almost nothing (just a cheap blueprint buyout) and I can manufacture and sell more for good profit. In lowsec, two at a time, flown in with a shuttle and praying for a lazy gate camper...XD
3. Make it cheap
Well, this whole thing (rigs included) costs ~6mil. I wont be terribly sad if it dies a couple of times, I can make that much money in 3hrs flying my newbie venture. I wanted to keep the cost as low as possible so that it is more newbie friendly, thus the only T2 fitting is the BCS, and that for 2 reasons. a) its less expensive than a T1 meta variant, and b) you want to train the weapon upgrades skill asap anyway, so that your launchers do not destroy your CPU.
For the rest of the stuff:
---I use the sensor booster (without a script) to equalize my targeting and missile ranges. With my current low (750k points overall, 1 month player) skills, my missiles get sth like 64km range, but my vanilla targeting stops @52km.
--The overdrive injector helps with getting out of range fast enough, and serves as a stopgap until I can get the skills to fit another BCS in.
Now, some numbers. I know they are highly unimpressive, but what can I do? This is a newbie fitting setup after all...C:
DPS: Around 85sh
WPN RANGE: 64km
SPEED: 302 and with MWD 1246
And an EFT screenshot
Remember guys, Im trying to learn the game, this fit may be actually horrible (take my word for it, and always remember that drunk/stupid applies to both gaming and posting on a website). Thus, any and every feedback is vastly appreciated, Cheers...^^
