Corvus Corax

As I scour the modern etchings
on the cowardice, like, floors
I seek the solace in only knowing
there’s hope but not much more
I cant but help the silent cravings
of a ravens stalking tour
I yearn to hear its beating
as it quotes the nevermore

To take such interest in the beast
yet misunderstand the sigh
how much hope can these cowards have
when they condemn both you and I
I cant but help the silent cravings
of a ravens screeching cry
for once the words have been released
the question is always why?

Salutations from Sunny Greece...^^

Newbie player here, this is my first fitting. I think it can help young Caldari players like me run the SoE, L1 and L2 missions without breaking the bank - or our pods for that matter...

The ship I chose to depict is the Corax, a dessie viewed as the natural progression step-stone from the Condor to the Caracal for all missile loving new players. Its a very nice ship (that looks very similar to a VIIC U-Boat as an added bonus), sporting enough firepower and range to be a match for any rat frigate, but I learned (the hard way) that its too fragile under fire to sustain its DPS long enough to kill anything significant.

After managing to solo Dagan in this ship (the first utterly frustrating encounter in this game for me, took me 3 tries and 500 missiles T_T) I started doing L1 and L2 missions with it. It didnt take long for me (which is a surprising fact, as I am too drunk/stupid all the time to pay attention) to realize that the Corax is a ship excelling in range tanking. So the plan was, stay far away, keep those missiles flying, rinse and repeat.

And then I encountered this.
http://eve-survival.org/wikka.php?wakka=StoptheThief2

and I died. and I died. and I died. and I died. and I
wait a minute, Im being drunk/stupid again!

Thus slowly, a strategy unfolded so that I could run safely those pesky L2 missions without covering my eyes in terror every 2 minutes or so...

1. use an ancillary shield with a faction hardener
There are some rooms in missions that warp you too close to those pesky pirates for comfort. So, you naturally have to turn away, hit the MWD pedal to the metal and RUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!11 until you are far enough from harm. The first 30 seconds or so are the most crucial here, since its the time when you are getting hit while your angular speed is low and your signature super-sized from the MWD use. After some testing I found out that a small shield hardener will not suffice (a meta4 MSE on the other hand will take months to train for), and a small shield booster like the CL5 will not be able to keep up.

I discovered that using a faction specific hardener would help greatly in that difficult situation. And pairing that with a pulsing ASB that excels against enemy DPS spikes is the best way to stay afloat until you open the range to something you are comfortable with.

2. Use a salvager
I know, many people want to race those missions to gain standings asap. I find though that putting a salvager in greatly helps a new player like me to better outfit my ship and then make some money off the side. For example, the three missile rigs chosen in this fitting setup cost me almost nothing (just a cheap blueprint buyout) and I can manufacture and sell more for good profit. In lowsec, two at a time, flown in with a shuttle and praying for a lazy gate camper...XD

3. Make it cheap
Well, this whole thing (rigs included) costs ~6mil. I wont be terribly sad if it dies a couple of times, I can make that much money in 3hrs flying my newbie venture. I wanted to keep the cost as low as possible so that it is more newbie friendly, thus the only T2 fitting is the BCS, and that for 2 reasons. a) its less expensive than a T1 meta variant, and b) you want to train the weapon upgrades skill asap anyway, so that your launchers do not destroy your CPU.

For the rest of the stuff:

---I use the sensor booster (without a script) to equalize my targeting and missile ranges. With my current low (750k points overall, 1 month player) skills, my missiles get sth like 64km range, but my vanilla targeting stops @52km.
--The overdrive injector helps with getting out of range fast enough, and serves as a stopgap until I can get the skills to fit another BCS in.

Now, some numbers. I know they are highly unimpressive, but what can I do? This is a newbie fitting setup after all...C:

DPS: Around 85sh
TANK: 2834
WPN RANGE: 64km
SPEED: 302 and with MWD 1246

And an EFT screenshot

Remember guys, Im trying to learn the game, this fit may be actually horrible (take my word for it, and always remember that drunk/stupid applies to both gaming and posting on a website). Thus, any and every feedback is vastly appreciated, Cheers...^^

Oh boy, thats one huge wall of text, that im not really gonna bother reading... :-P but ill say this, small anc booster is useless, or anc boosters in general when it comes to missions (unless u have 2). If you plan on running lvl 1 and 2 in this, i would suggest simply a medium shield extender in combination with resists and an Afterburner, it will be more than enough to run those missions. Or if you're not comfortable with a buffered tank, then simply a regular small shield booster that you can run for an extended amount of time (doesnt have to be cap stable). But in either case, remove the mwd - yes it does make you go very fast but it makes you a huge target and you will take more damage because of it. An afterburner will also give you a decent speed boost, but will help u take less damage, as long as you keep moving.

Hello, and thanks for the feedback!

I am already running L2 (and some COSMOS 1) with this setup, and trying to upgrade fittings as I go, I find it works well for my needs. But as I said earlier, the main reason for wanting to submit this setup is for me to understand the game better and learn. So any feedback is valuable. On with the suggestions.

    1. Running a MSE would be the best thing to do indeed (almost doubling my buffer), its not an option for this setup though. I cannot fit it, neither can most 2 week old players that this is used for.

    2. I have tried using a C5-L, with catastrophic results (see the mission listed above). Sadly the DPS spike when you enter some of those rooms is too much to handle, at least for the first 30 seconds or so. I have seen time and again that the ASB helps more, bringing me outside the damage envelope with more shield HP and my capacitor intact (more or less, I had to cycle 10 times once, but other than that, 7 will do fine).

In all other situations a SSB is better. Not in this specific one though.

    3. Before I used the MWD I had an experimental 1MW AB on. I found out that using it prolonged the DPS spike to about double the time a MWD did, while at the same time the elevated signature that the MWD gave did not equate to double damage taken.

I have to state here that this setup works like this in L2s only due to the extreme range the Corax has with LMs. Time and again I finished difficult for other ships L2s (I even tried a couple of L3s, but the time taken to finish each was absurd) just by opening the range and lazily pummeling the rats with missiles from 60km away. This setup is made to specifically address the one problem this strategy has in L2 PvE: entering a room with 5 frigs waiting you @ 15km range.

And for that, it is impossible (for a newbie, someone else just puts an MSE+AB+Faction specific SH) to beat an ASB+MWD+SH combo. At least thats what happened with me...

Again, any and every feedback is vastly appreciated, cheers...be sure to downvote the loadout if you feel its wrong/bad, and give some feedback so that I can understand better the mechanics behind it...^^

I'm glad you are trying hard to theory craft and are sensibly thinking about criticisms before you reply.

That being said, most meta IV mods don't break the bank either and give significant fitting and statistical advantages, which allow you to fit better modules period and increase your dps and tank ability, all of which increase mission-running efficiency where you are grinding, and TIME IS MONEY.

In pvp anything below a MASB is worthless as shit, but if you aren't having any problems tanking your lv 2 missions with this then so be it, I won't hate.

There's other things to say, but in the interest of growing a welcoming community, I'll just say, stick with eve and keep improving while trying hard to accept any well-intentioned/experienced advice you get.

Thanks a lot for the feedback and the kind words!

You are certainly right! Meta4 mods are absolutely wonderful for any newbie player. They require no additional training, give you better DPS/TANK and, most of all, help with fitting until you are capable or rich enough to afford a T2 loadout. As I said earlier, I'm always trying to upgrade my loadout as training finishes and money accumulates. Currently, my setup is the following for the same Corax (I'm running Cosmos 1 and 2 with it) :

The ASB still works for me, but I had to downgrade the MWD due to fitting problems. The strategy RUN AWAY LIKE MAADDDD!! is still valid, at least in my playthroughs for the time being..I just wanted to post a loadout for the newbie player like me that costs under 8mil, is easily replaceable and can do those missions without problems.

Reading about the ASB some more, most of the tactics enabling them call indeed for a couple, alternating the pulses. I can understand the reason, and really, the above loadout would be horrible indeed in PvP.

Regards and best wishes, thanks for the feedback again...^^

This is good, but you should use a covops (or a T1 cloaky/explorer if you can't fly the covops) for Caldari this is the Buzzard (Heron).

Then you fit a cloak and a mwd and learn the cloak/mwd trick and you can sail thru the gatecamps with the greatest of ease.

Yep, I use a cloaked Heron with that now, the MWD+Cloak trick works like a charm. I've been caught once by an interceptor and podded (my mistake, the combo needs some quick reflexes with a T1 cloak and I lacked them at the time), but other than that I am selling those rigs for good profit (especially ACRs are selling very good). How did you power this build?  I am a newbie and I cannot get anywhere near enough power to equip all 6 launchers plus the scavenger.
