I don't post many loadouts for small ships, they aren't really my thing, but the cormorant is a bit special to me. I was my first proper ship and also the first ship I ever lost as well as the first ship I ever solo PvP'd in. In fact I still use one now for catching pods and frigs.

If I had known back then what I know now and taking into account availability of the small rigs this is how I would have fit my cormorant, in fact how I have a cormorant fit just like this for starting missions for new factions albeit with tech 2 mods and guns.

The beauty of the a destroyer over a frigate is alpha strike. Even with very minimal gunnery skills combined with the great tracking and range of 125mm railguns as well as the cormorants inherent tracking and range bonuses you will be alpha striking NPC's as fast as you can lock them up.

I highly recommend this setup to anyone that's just stating out in eve, it really is hugely effective for the time it takes to train and considering it's cost.

With slightly better skills it can even work as an effective low sec ratter, with long range ammo I even manage to tackle battlecruiser spawns within the first few days of playing EVE and due to it's superior agility you are more likely to be able to evade pirates in low sec than in a cruiser.

It fits with low skills and even though it's a fairly long skill to train I guess it's something any prospective mission runner may as well train early on.

    Edit: Added salvager

What can I say? This is very similar to my lvl1 mission running/rat killing comorant.  My big difference is that I swaped out to two 150's to aid in kiting tactics.
Took a while to train up when training barges also but a great toy when the reliable income from mining gets stale.
    Thanks Its all good.

Hey there, I just got this fit that you've posted on here. I'm having trouble getting enough out of the power grid. I currently have a maximum of 63.25 Powergrid. I need to squeeze out a total 2.15 more from the powergrid. What skills would help me achieve this?

    Primarily engineering.

This should fit with engineering at lv3.

You need engineering 4 for tactical shield manipulation.

And at low skills you will run out of cap rather fast. Perhaps 1 ccc?

You really don't need much cap, this finishes most lv1 missions in around 10-30 seconds even with very low skills.

At a stretch, it will do some level 2s with long range ammo and a few warp outs.

It's not what I'd call practical though you would be better moving on to an assault missile launcher caracal.

Not much point in posting stats, because no one is going to be using this with all level 5s anyway.

It does roughly 100 DPS, has about 30-40 DPS tank from passive regen and goes more than 500m/s.

Thanks for this set up. My loadout is still a work in progress but much better than the route I was on thanks to this recommendation.

Do you have a suggestion for making 150mm work as well as Invulnerability Shield vs.Shield Matrix which is currently about 1 Mil ISK. (My skills are mostly 3s going on 4).

Don't bother with 150mms you can fit them with an axuilary power core 1, but if you use that low slot for a mag stab and use 125s you will actually do more damage. Also 125s track small targets much better.

As for the invuln field, just use t1 non named.

Why not? Salvaging some wrecks(those that drop plates and trit bars) can bring in more isk than the mission rewards and bounties put together.

Of course if you can't use a salvager simply leave it off.

In lv.1, the Cormo will kill everything too fast to take much damage, but in lv.2 you need more toughness --> go cruiser.

Would switching out a shield extender for a shield booster be worth it? If so, what shield booster would you recommend? I'd imagine a small one, of course.

    +1

No, don't bother with a shield booster, this has plenty of passive tank for all level 1 missions, a shield booster won't give you much more tank, you should never mix buffer/passive tank with a shield booster and you would drain your cap in seconds.

This was my first proper fit, I was floundering around in the dark till I found this site. Thanks Mike, I will take a look at your other load-outs too. I can confirm that a few level 2's are possible in this, but don't try unless you have a change of underpants at the ready ;p

Hi, i have bought this fitting, but i haven't enough energy to activate all.
    Which skilling i need?

Weapons Upgrades - 5% reduction per skill level in the CPU needs of weapon turrets, launchers and smartbombs.
Controlled Bursts - 5% reduction in capacitor need of weapon turrets per skill level.
Energy Management - 5% bonus to capacitor capacity per skill level.
Energy Systems Operation - 5% reduction in capacitor recharge time per skill level.
Engineering - 5% Bonus to ship's powergrid output per skill level.
Shield Upgrades - 5% reduction in shield upgrade powergrid needs.
Electronics - 5% Bonus to ship CPU output per skill level.

These are all really good skills to level to help optimize cpu and power output vs usage.  I am still training a few of these to level 3 and 4 myself, so I am not sure what levels I need to get my capacitor to be fully stable with everything turned online.  I will update this post once I do know.

Also, check your certification planner and see if you have gotten the core competency basic certificate.  If not, definitely work towards getting that.  Core competency is a very frequently overlooked certification, but having atleast the basic core competency gives you a really good foundation to build on and it doesn't take that long to get.

I'd fit an automated targeting unit instead of salvager. Not for automatically targeting things, I don't think I've ever seen that actually work. But the t2 auto targeter gives +3 targets. When you are killing things as fast as this ship does its nice to be able to keep LOTS of targets locked.
