  That is just an awesome peice of mathematical analysis.
  
  I wonder what the significance of 7.1289 is, maybe it's just a number they chose to fit the curve to what they wanted, but it would be cool if it represented something meaningful.
  
  This guide will be awesomely useful if/when we get round to making a ship fitter for EVEMon.

  I suppose they had 1 over 7 to fit an approximate curve and then thought 'hmmm, lets do 12' and 'it really needs 89'. I don't think this is far from the truth, because by the looks of it, it's exactly 7.1289, and that's a really odd constant. It could be the number of players at the introduction of this stacking penalty divided by 10000 as well. Might be fun to look that one up.

  Wow. I hadn't bothered reading through it before but now that I have ... just wow. Of course, the whole reason I dropped out of CS in university was because of my mediocre (at best) maths skills, so I may not be the best judge...

  That was the best news I'd read all day, I'd always wondered what the actual penalties were and could never actually find anywhere that broke it down so completely or even at all. It even came right out and answered my real question, what is the optimal number of mods/rigs to use without wasting slots or isk.

  I ran into that number before when I was doing an encryption project using a set of dominos as the number set.  That number is the root of the magnitude growth of any system based on domino's.  I guess that means that the algorithm they use is binary but with a 27 slot modifier on every variable and various double positive and double negative switches.
  
  Then again, maybe it's just a coincidence.

  Thanks Aenigma. The equations went completly over my head but i got the mains points. So the rule of thumb here is no more than 3 because then stac penalty is too great.

  so if i had this:-
  
  24% + 15% + 22.5% what would be the final percentage??
  eg eanm2 + shield resist rig + hardener?
  
  24 (x1.0) + 22.5 (x86%) + 15 (x59%) ==??
  
  == 1.0 + 0.86 + 0.59 == x2.45??
  == 24 + 19.35 + 8.85 == +52.2%??
  or == 24 x 19.35 x 8.85 == +wot??
  or == 24 / 19.35 / 8.85 == +wot??
  
  or wot?? love maths but plain, clear n concise english is moar better!!! and defo needs a better fontface or swap the '*' for 'x' for the multiplication symbol....
