BattleClinic’s EvE-Online Player Guide

Current Version April 2009
First offered June 2004

Now edited by Ruprect Belganor

Here it is, the BattleClinic Player Guide for EvE-Online. Completely overhauled and updated for Apocrypha, we have worked hard and are very excited to bring you this 77 page fact and fun filled information pack - we hope it helps.

The guide is intended to introduce new players to EvE and enhance more experienced players knowledge. Even those with a year in game may find a few handy hints. New players are also recommended to take the beginning in-game tutorials and read the official new player guide at eve-online.com.

We aim to update the guide regularly so we encourage feedback on errors/omissions/enhancements or just to say what you liked and didn’t like. Future versions will be uploaded to this topic thread.

The guide has hyperlinks for easy navigation for viewing on-screen. If you want to print it out, save paper and print 2-up Portrait and double-sided (~20 pages).

The previous editions have been downloaded a total of 65,247 times.

Enjoy, and as always, Fight Smart!

Thank you very much, this is just what I needed.

I play free lancer solo all the time at home, so I am hoping EVE will expand my horizons. :pwned:

I like the guide a lot.  I'm curious if it will be upgraded to take into account the Trinity changes?  Thanks.

My compliments on a great guide. Just started EVE and have been consuming the reading on this channel.

Nice job, well done,i've been playing eve for 5 hours each weekend for a over a year now, and i still found alot of info in your guide, that i didn't know, thanks..

Found an error -- In the section on salvage, it says you need to have looted the wreck before you can salvage it.  In actuality, you don't have to loot first.  If you salvage before you loot, the wreck just drops a can with its loot contents.

I don't know if that causes a problem if the wreck wasn't yours, though.

It poses no problem. you are flagged the same looting from wreck or looting from can.

i usually dont bother looting wrecks i just tracktor them all close while starting salvas at 5km away.

at the end if i have tracktored everything in 20km radius i empty the cans in a row.

much easyer than to keep track of what is looted and what is not and trag those closer.

Excellent guide, I just started playing Eve yesterday and this guide is a gem!

I have a question tho, when I press F-10, I do not see a "Display Settings" tab or button or anything.  Has something changed in game since this document was written?

    e.g  <text from the guide>
You can also use the map to find agents who will work with you, right now. If you want to locate every agent in EVE who will work with you, press F10. Click the display settings,........
  • July 26, 2008, 07:33:52 am

If you press F10, the Map will open.
Somewhere in the upper left there´s a control window to Filter useful Data in/out of the Map.
That´s where the Display Settings Tab is supposed to be, but i haven´t been playing the last few weeks and can´t really remember the exact Tabs.

wow, im not new to eve and i was getting to a dangerous point in what i knew about the game, although i didnt realise it. i thought this would be a quick scan and id read bits of it, ive started reading every word twice and ive filled in many vast gaps in my knowelede of eve, ones i never would have known about otherwise. Each section i reinforce the knoweldege i have and learn something new aswell. massive thankyou to everyone who put time and effort into this ill be recomending it to all our corp rookies and pros alike next time i log on :)
  • August 11, 2008, 03:24:40 am

Is there a guide to corporation set at  the character and corporation levels?
  • August 11, 2008, 03:27:14 am

the only issue with guides is they take the fun out of the mystery.

    congrats otherwise.

is there a revised edition for 08?

Yes. The guide has been updated and now includes faction warfare plus updated references. Enjoy!

Just finished reading the new version and want to extend my compliments on an excellent read for the new and lesser experienced player like myself. As someone mentioned, it helped fill in a number of gaps in the knowledge. Big thumbs up for the hard work.

I also noted several spelling/grammar errors which may or may not be of importance to others. If it is to the authors, I'd be happy to volunteer to proof in the future if it's of interest. This in no way detracts from the excellent work done by everyone involved and should not be construed as a negative--just a way to be able to 'give back' to the community as I doubt I'll ever surpass the knowledge consistently demonstrated on this forum.

Again, my compliments on an outstanding guide.

I just want to say thanks and good job on the New Player Guide. EvE is VERY complicated and can easily drive a new player to give up when they have no idea how to correct their mistakes... or even to know when they are making mistakes. This Guide helps new players at least get their foot in the door, so they can get over the beginning learning curve and start enjoying the game. However, a new player must understand this is just a quick boost to get started. After one gets their sea legs, there is still a ton of stuff to learn after that.

It's very nice to have a guide like this. :D

(I read the chapter about salvaging and it says you need a Salvager Tackle to salvage. Such a tackle is 20 Mil so I thought I wasn't ready to salvage yet. Later I found out that the tackle wasn't needed, that you need a Salvager I instead.)
  • October 25, 2008, 03:06:54 am

interesting. you only need the skill and the salvager I to salvage. interesting to hear what SghnDubh says.
  • October 25, 2008, 09:37:22 am

    * SghnDubh will check and if necessary edit that. Thanks for the catch, sorry for the confusion.
  • October 25, 2008, 03:52:31 pm

You only need a salvager module.  I never used a tackler.
  • October 25, 2008, 03:55:47 pm

Awesome guide.  Been playing for a little over 1 month and the guide has helped tremendously.

BTW, how do I get my avatar's picture to appear?  Just posted my first loadout and couldn't seem to do it.

Congrats on fantastic work all the way around.

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it.
You'll need to upload a picture of your avatar to our forums as we're not directly connected to the EVE system. You can do this in your "Profile" link just above the EON advert :D

Salvage guide has an error - it claims that a wreck must be looted prior to salvaging.

    This is not the case.

Well the new guide has been posted for a few weeks now and downloaded over a thousand times which is fantastic.

We want to continue to provide a quality guide so please feel free to provide feedback.

At this point I also just want to give kudos and thanks to Vavutsikarios whom has been pivotal in clarifying many items that were in doubt or quite simply just wrong.  :notworthy:

Cheers buddy, I'm looking forward to your feedback on this version.

  • May 18, 2009, 08:46:06 am

Excellent guide as to the "how"
Leaves out a few things on the "why" "waht" and "where", but i guess that would take out some of the fun??
One small error: largest industrials can take up to 36K cargo, with rigs/skills/cargoexpanders.
T2 can go up to 38K
(Still does not help with those bloody lvl4 courier storylines at 40K cargo, but hey...)
